On Saturday we celebrated Aiden's 7th birthday with a Willy Wonka themed party. His birthday is actually the 27th, but we'll be camping for our ward campout.
We told the kids they were honorary Oompa Loompas for the day. We put them through a little training. We watched the parts of the movie (old school) where each of the kiddos got into trouble. Then the kids had to rescue them.
First up, Augustus Gloop! Save him from the chocolate river.
The kids had to bob for apples. The first one to come up with Mr. Gloop was the winner.
Second, Violet Beauregard. The kids had to juice Violet without popping her. I gave them water balloons that they had to poke holes in and juice. The first to fill their cup to the red line was the winner.
Next up, Mr. Charlie Bucket! Only he didn't really need saving by the Oompa Loompas. The kids had to down their Fizzy Lifting drink then be the first to burp.
Then it was my favorite, Veruca "I want and Oompa Loompa now!" Salt. The kids had to separate the good eggs (yellow gumballs) from the bad eggs (any other color). They had one minute to find the most golden eggs.
And lastly, Mike Teavee. The children had one minute to stretch their laffy taffy without breaking it. The longest taffy won.
I think the kids had a good time. It was a candy free for all! But I'm not so sure their parents appreciated it.
Aiden opened presents, we noshed on cake and ice cream. And then we sent the kids home all
sugared up!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AIDEN!

oh fun! How did I not hear about this?
Happy birthday. You have the best party's for your kids.
Is that a store bought cake I see? Hollie!?! I am so disappointed.
What a fun party. Remember when we had professional pictures of the two of us in our matching Oompa Loompa shirts. Where do you find these party ideas? Or do you come up with them on your own? You are AMAZING
Cute, cute idea! I think you should be a party planner :)
I'm going to steal that one for Everett's birthday about 5 to 10 years from now. LOVE IT. and seriously, what happened to your great cake idea we talked about last Sunday?
Kayleen-I really don't know why we never talked about it on our walks...one would have thought it would have come up.
Kris and Kenj- Ummm, it was a whole cake catastrophe. I didn't have powdered sugar, so I blended up some granulated into what I thought was a fine powder and it was still very crunchy. Then I cut the cake in half (for the little half room at the end of the movie) and it tipped over. Plus I didn't leave myself enough time to do the fondant lettering. So it was a nightmare all around.
Jules-Mostly I steal my ideas from other people. I got the Willy Wonka idea from my SIL and then made up some of the games. Or I get them from Martha Stewart.
I wanna have a Willy Wonka party for my 35th next month.
And FYI, there is no relation between sugar and hyperactivity no matter what parents say - so just tell them to shove it.
I was going to leave a post about kids and sugar but derek already addressed it. And much more succintly I might add.
Rosie wants an invitation if you have any left. She likes them for reference and keeps all of them you have given to her. While she doesn't necessarily miss the parties she does miss her some invitations.

Great B-day party, very creative Hollie, and the kids had a great time.
He looked like he had enough sugar at the bottom picture
